All dressed up

If you know me you know I will find any excuse to get dressed up. I love wearing heels and doing my hair and makeup. And nothing looks better than a man in a tuxedo, am I right…. I know typical girl. So when I got invited to a black tie event I absolutely jumped at the opportunity. I spent weeks pinning different dresses to my Pinterest board and looking for the perfect pair of shoes. My poor boyfriend had to endure several shopping trips to make sure I have the right shoes, accessories and lipstick.

I saw this lovely pair of black heels and fell in love instantly. Usually after 20 minutes of wearing heels my feet start to kill me, but these heels were so comfortable I didn’t even break them in.

I cannot wear costume jewelry. I feel like my body starts to reject it and I end up with a horrible red rash and Lovisa proved the answer. Their Stirling Silver jewelry line is super affordable and absolutely stunning.

I don’t often wear big and chunky earrings, but felt that the occasion called for it and I think it pulled the entire look together.

For my eyes and hair I kept it simple. A smokey eye with a slight wing was achieved using only Inglot makeup. One of their consultants did my makeup for the night and it looked absoletly amazing. I was so impressed with this brand. Not only is it cruelty free but also affordable considering it is higher end.

My dress looked amazing and was exactly what I wanted. I felt daring yet classy and sophisticated. A local designer made it and it fits like a dream. I absolutely can’t wait for the next black tie event.

It was such a lovely event and I felt absolutely empowered and fabulous in my dress. With lovely friends and a handsome boyfriend what more can a girl ask for.

2017 New Year’s Resolutions

It’s time to finally welcome 2017 and the cliché saying “A new year, a new me”… but for real this time. Personally 2016 had a lot of ups and downs and if I had to sum it up in one word I would say it was a roller-coaster. 2017 will be (hopefully) my last year at university. This year I will finish my degree in Media, Communication and Culture and after that the world will be my oyster. But before I can start planning my future I have to tackle this year. In 2017 I want to:

1. Run my first half marathon:  I’ve never been a fan of running. To me it is absolute torture. I feel like there is no end and then the horrible stich in my side… But I’m starting really slowly (If you want to know more about my running leave me comment down below)

2. Take more photo’s: I’m horrible at capturing those special moments with friends and family. This year I am determined to capture those special memories, a picture is after all worth a thousand words. I also downloaded an app that stores a 1 second video a day and at the end of the year puts it all together. I feel like this will force me to take a second out of my day to capture something special.

3. Be more organised: This year is going to be a real challenge for me. It is my last year of university, I am starting a part time job and I want to publish more on my blog. This is going to take some major planning and time management. No more watching YouTube videos for 4 hours a day!

4. Travel more: It has always been a dream of mine to go on a contiki tour around Europe. This year I am determined to save enough money to finally make this dream come true.

5. Be healthier: 2017 is the year that I will start taking care of my body. I am going to cut out the fast foods and enjoy some delicious, nutritious and healthy meals. I am young and should not take my health for granted.

I’m going to really try and stick to these new year’s resolutions. I know it won’t always be easy but I am motivated and determined to make 2017 the best year yet! Let me know in the comments down below what you want to achieve this year.

WIN a R25 000 shopping spree with Labello!

Labello recently released their Blackberry Shine lip-balm and the opportunity to win one of two shopping spree’s worth R25 000. RubyBox  send my friend (she runs an amazing beauty blog on instagram) three Labello lip-balms to try and I was lucky enough to get one.  The packaging of this lip product is similar to all their other lip care products, nothing new and exactly what you expect from a lip balm. The formula is creamy and moisturizing on the lips without feeling sticky and oily.  The only downside is that it does not have an SPF coverage so I recommend putting some sunscreen on your lips before applying it.

labelloThe color is a lovely plum shade and looks very natural on the lips. It is perfect for that “no makeup” look. It has a very intense color for a lip balm which is pleasantly surprising. You can definitely wear it as a lip color on it’s own. I tried to use it underneath a lipstick but I did not like it at all. I feel like the coverage of the lipstick get tacky and it does not wear as long. This versatile product only retails for about R21.95.

21 Things I learned the year I turned 21

So this year I turned 21 and thought I would look back at the things I learned so far.

  1. Be yourself: Life is too short to try and be someone else. Do what make you happy. Just be you. There will always be someone who disagrees with you or dislikes you. Just be you!
  2. Take time for yourself: Just take time away from everything and everyone. Switch off your phone and go for a massage or get your nails done.
  3. It’s okay to make mistakes: Making mistakes is one of the best ways to learn. Perfection is overrated.
  4. Cats are the best pets to have: They love you no matter what. Studies have shown that people with cats live longer… Just saying.
  5. Going out is not a priority: I don’t know if I’m just getting old, but I enjoy having a relaxed night with friends at home just as much, if not more, than a nigh out.
  6. No one really knows what they are doing: Life is complicated. Just go with your gut.
  7. It’s okay to cry: Just cry. You will most probably feel better afterwards. It is also alright to eat chocolate in these situations. Chocolate understands.
  8. Call for help: If you are unsure about anything you can always call your mom or dad. There’s always someone you can phone who will help you. Just don’t be afraid to ask.
  9. Get rid of negative people in your life: You don’t need people constantly bringing you down. It’s not worth it.
  10. Don’t drink bad coffee: It’s not worth it. Coffee is an essential part of life. It is necessary to properly adult.
  11. Never look up health symptoms or illness on the internet: A stomach cramp will be diagnosed as Ebola or something and you will freak out. It’s not worth it.
  12. You are allowed to change your mind: Nothing is set in stone. Change your mind as often as you like, as you long as it makes you HAPPY.
  13. Never stop dreaming: You’re never too old to dream big.
  14. It’s just a bad day, not a bad life: Just put on some yoga pants, throw your hair into a bun, pour yourself a glass of wine and relax.
  15. Appreciate the small things in life: Big romantic gesture is great; I mean who doesn’t love a bouquet of roses or a box of chocolates. But the truth is the roses will die and the chocolates will disappear. It’s the small things that really matters. The things that often go unnoticed.
  16. Never go to bed angry: You will never get a good night’s rest if you go to bed angry. Remember Tyra Banks said the best product in your make up bag is a good night’s sleep.
  17. University is not just about going to classes: You will be surprised how much you can learn about people and life outside the classroom. Just be open to change, meet new people and experience new things. Personal experience is just as valuable as knowledge in a textbook.
  18. Get a hobby, something that’s interesting and makes you feel alive: It’s easy for life just to pass you buy, take time out of your week or month to do something new and exciting.
  19. Treat people the way you would like to be treated: Everyone has their own problems and things they are going through. No one can completely understand what another person is going through. Everyone experiences things differently. So treat others the way you would like them to treat you. It won’t cost you a thing.
  20. Do not dwell on the past: The past is the past. There is nothing you can do to change it. Do not waste precious time dwelling in the past. Make it a learning experience.
  21. Love yourself: You are amazing. You are one in a million. There is no one else like you. Do not let anyone bring you down or tell you, you are not good enough.

These are just a few things I learned in the past 21 years. Believe me when I say I have a lot more to learn. And strangely I cannot wait… Let me know in the comments down below what you have learned. I love reading other people’s advice.

Getting to know me

Since I am still very new at this blogging thing I thought I would give you the opportunity to get to know me better. I found 20 questions online tagged at “Getting to know me: blogger edition”. I am not sure what makes the blogger edition different from any other getting to know me questions… but here goes.

  1. How tall are you? Depending which unit of measurement you use I am 1.73m or 5 foot 6. Which is kind of in between, I’m not short but I guess I’m not tall either.
  2. What is your favourite colour? As a little girl my favourite colour use to be soft pink, but as I grew older I started developing a deep love for blue. Any shade of blue…
  3. What is your biggest blog related pet peeve? I love reading different blogs and since I started blogging myself I know how much time and effort goes into creating each blog post. Therefore, I don’t like putting any of my fellow bloggers down by saying I don’t like what they have created. BUT I am not a fan of the email pop up that appears on the screen as soon as you open the blog. I want to read a bit and gather your opinion before I just blindly sign up.
  4. What is your favourite song? My favourite song really depends on my mood. I listen to all genres and generally enjoy anything I can dance to or just listen while I relax.  Recently I’ve been obsessed with the song Lone Digger by Caravan Palace it falls into the genre electro swing.
  5. What is your favourite ice cream flavour? CHOCOLATE… with extra chocolate toppings.
  6. What is your favourite way to spend time alone? I love reading. There’s nothing as good as reading a book curled up on my bed on a rainy day.
  7. What is your favourite junk food? Roco Mamas Smash Burger with extra pickles.
  8. Do you have any pets? If so what are their names? Yes, I have a little cutie pie of a cat called Luna. Not sure what breed she is but she is so cute, playful, cuddly and tiny.

    My baby Luna!
  9. What is your favourite food? Sushi or prawns.
  10. What is your favourite beauty tool? My GHD. I use it almost every day. I have such curly and frizzy hair and my GHD is my lifesaver.
  11. When were you last embarrassed? What happened? I embarrass myself on a daily basis. I have the amazing ability to fall upstairs, choke on air and walk into stationary objects. A few days ago I was writing a semester test which had me crying in frustration… Real tears. After struggling for over an hour I decided to call it quits and hand in my paper. I had to walk to the front of the class to hand in my test paper and while walking to the front I promptly slipped fell on my bum with some choice words coming out of my mouth. Needless to say everyone that was still writing looked up only to see me sprawled out on the ground. Even the lecturer commented on my epic fall.
  12. If you could drink one beverage for the rest of your life, what would it be? Obviously coffee or water but I guess in order to make the coffee I would need water… right?
  13. What is your favourite movie? Aaaaaah that’s like choosing your favourite child. (Star Wars Force Awakens)
  14. What were you in high school; prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist? Our school didn’t really have those stereotypical groups but if I had to place myself into one I would probably be a theatre nerd. I loved acting in musical productions, I did a lot of amateur productions and even took drama as a subject.2015-07-11-10-40-00_deco
  15. If you could live anywhere in the world, where you live? Vancouver Canada. I don’t know why but I would love to live there.
  16. If you could have one super power what would it be? I would like to be able to read minds. I always wonder what people are thinking.
  17. Do you have any hidden talents? I wouldn’t call it a hidden talent but I enjoy dancing. I use to do tap, modern, ballet, contemporary and hip hop but I don’t have as much time anymore but I still take social ballroom and Latin American classes at university.fb_img_1439677064087
  18. If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday where would you go? Switzerland, I would like to see snow and try to snowboard/ ski.
  19. What is your perfect romantic date? Hmmmm maybe just a dinner at a cozy restaurant where I can get to know the person, be myself and just relax. Nothing too formal or crazy.
  20. What is your favourite item in your cupboard right now? My black Zara ankle boots.
