My First Bloggers Workshop

My first bloggers workshop! On Saturday I attended my first bloggers workshop with Olerato Pharasi from House of OP.It was so much fun meeting fellow bloggers, getting to know them personally and hearing about their experience in the blogging world .

The workshop was held at the Protea Hotel in Port Elizabeth.  Olerato took time to familiarize herself with our blogs and each blogger. She gave each one of us specific tips on things we can improve and things she liked about our blogs.

We also talked about what type of blogger we are and what make us different. She even had some tips for those who would like to monetize their blogs and turn it into a business. Needless to say after 2 hours we were ready for coffee and some eats and treats. We each got to take home a booklet with everything we discussed and more.

During the workshop we also had the opportunity to write down some blogging goals for 2017. So I decided this year  I want to:

  1. Collaborate with a fellow blogger.
  2. Post more.
  3. Improve on my blog photography.
  4. Attend more bloggers events.

I was pretty excited for my first bloggers workshop. We do not have a lot of bloggers events in Port Elizabeth and I feel like during events like these you really get to know your fellow bloggers and learn from them. A big thank you to Olerato for hosting such a fun event. I am looking forward to the next one.  Let me know in the comments if you’ve attended any bloggers events recently.

Tresemmé Heat Protecting Spray

So how bad can heat styling be for your hair? The answer is really bad if you do not treat it properly.

If I’ve learned one thing about my hair it is that you have to protect it from heat styling tools. And for someone who straightens her hair every second day, a good heat protecting spray is a must. So while browsing the aisles of my local drug store I came across the Tressemé heat protecting spray. This small bottle is perfect for travelling and retails for about R29 (£1.50) for 100ml.

I’ve been using this spray for about a month now and I absolutely love it. I have very difficult hair. It’s curly but tends to frizz, I have an oily scalp and dry hair so finding the right product isn’t always easy. What I love about this product is that it does not make my hair feel oily or greasy. After towel drying my hair I spritz a generous amount on my hair before brushing it. (I don’t know if it’s just me but it also helps with the knots in my hair!) I then proceed to blow dry and straighten. You can also use this on dry hair without having to worry about any sticky residue. The result is softer and shinier hair.  The best part about the product is that it does not weigh down my hair at all. Oh and it smells absolutely amazing!

Quick tip to tell if your heat protecting spray really works:

Spray one of your palms with your heat protecting spray, wait a minute for it to dry, then turning your blow-dryer on high, time how long you can hold it over your hand. Switch hands and hold the dryer over your unprotected one to see how long it takes for the heat to become unbearable. If your heat protecting spray really works you will feel I noticeable difference between the two palms.

Have you tried any heat protecting sprays that you love? Let me know in the comments down below.

Working as a fashion editor for a week

For years I though the life of a fashion editor is one of the most glamorous jobs. Going to cocktail parties with celebrities, getting free clothes, front row seats at fashion shows and getting to work with famous models. Believe me it is nothing like the Devil Wears Prada.

I had the opportunity to attend the Sarie fashion editors workshop in Cape Town, South Africa. The workshop was hosted by respected fashion editor, Amaria Carstens, who’s been in the industry for more than 10 years. We had the opportunity to hear all her stories and learn all the tricks of the trade. And let me tell you… It is hard work and long hours. We learned about how they cast models, tape shoes in order not to ruin them, steam a dress, create mood boards, style a look, what goes into location scouting and what makes a perfect cover page.

We then had the opportunity to design our own mood board, decide on a look and model.

I decided for my look to go for something classy, feminine yet sexy and daring. Watching the make up artist, photographer, hairdresser and model work is like watching a well oiled machine. They know exactly what work what doesn’t and how it all contributes to the end product. I stood there with my mouth open just staring.

Sarie really spoiled us. The entire time they made sure we were fed with some of the most amazing food and sweet treats, coffee and anything else you could think of.

A big thank you to Amaria and the entire Sarie team. I cannot wait to visit again!

Let me know in the comments if you would like to see the final image and look I created.

WIN a R25 000 shopping spree with Labello!

Labello recently released their Blackberry Shine lip-balm and the opportunity to win one of two shopping spree’s worth R25 000. RubyBox  send my friend (she runs an amazing beauty blog on instagram) three Labello lip-balms to try and I was lucky enough to get one.  The packaging of this lip product is similar to all their other lip care products, nothing new and exactly what you expect from a lip balm. The formula is creamy and moisturizing on the lips without feeling sticky and oily.  The only downside is that it does not have an SPF coverage so I recommend putting some sunscreen on your lips before applying it.

labelloThe color is a lovely plum shade and looks very natural on the lips. It is perfect for that “no makeup” look. It has a very intense color for a lip balm which is pleasantly surprising. You can definitely wear it as a lip color on it’s own. I tried to use it underneath a lipstick but I did not like it at all. I feel like the coverage of the lipstick get tacky and it does not wear as long. This versatile product only retails for about R21.95.
