Shows on my radar in January

We are currently in the golden age of television. There are so many good shows coming out everyday I decided to do a monthly roundup. So if you’re desperate for something new to watch here’s my top 5 for January 2017:

This is a more mature take on the classic Wizard of Oz story. Dorothy is looking for her mother when she get swept up in a horrible storm and transported to a mystical land where the wizard Oz rules the kingdom. She is unaware of the fact that she is about to fulfill a prophecy and change the lives of everyone around her.

This is the Netflix adaption of the novels by Daniel Handler. When a mysterious fire kills their parents, the Baudelaire children are forced to live with their closest relative (in this series it means the relative living the closest to them) and in this case it is Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris. Olaf is a terrible actor with his eyes on the children’s fortune. After a failed attempt at stealing their fortune the Baudelaire children set out to elude Count Olaf and find out the mysteries behind their parent’s secret life and mysterious death.

Set in the 1814’s taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (played by Tom Hardy) , a man sent to the ends of the earth. He has been accepted as long dead by those who know him. He returns to London from Africa a changed man to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire. He wants to rebuild a life for himself, but it is not as easy when his father’s legacy is poisoned with enemies in every corner. James has to navigate complex territories to avoid his own death. A series with laced with conspiracy, murder, betrayal, love and treachery.

The Young Pope is a parallel-universe show which can be seen as a mirror for the society we live in today.┬áLenny Belardo aka Pope Pius XIII , played by Jude Law , is the fictional first American Pope with a disregard for the traditions and an appetite for mischief. This ten episode series tells the story of Lenny Belardo’s controversial life and the beginning of Pius XIII’s pontificate. A complex character, often conflicted in his choices but full of compassion towards the poor.

This upcoming American teen drama is based on the character’s from the Archie comics. Riverdale may look like a quiet town but there is danger hidden in the shadows. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Josie and their friends explore the small town and weirdness of Riverdale. When the new school year starts and the school golden boy dies tragically nothing feels the same anymore and with the arrival of a new student, Veronica Lodge there is bound to be some kind of trouble and love triangle.

With all of these amazing new shows released, and it’s only January, there is certainly not enough hours in a day.I can’t wait to slowly make my way through watching all of these and chatting to all of you about it.
